Karishma Kapoor In Prem Qaidi

Prem Qaidi is the debut of Karishma Kapoor released in 1991. It is directed by K. Moralimohana Rao. The film is far-fetched love story which is hard to find in real life especially in nineties. It is therefore instead of explosive love story film is failed to hit the Box office.

Karishma Kapoor In Prem QaidiThe story is about a rich girl Neelima (Karishma Kapoor) who made a bet to entice a self respected youth Chandra Mohan (Harish) in her love. But later on falls in love with the same man. The interval makes a complete twist in the story and now both are Prem Qaidi. Here Neelima’s mother is with her daughter but father gets infuriated. He is a typical rich man who has no respect for poor. Chandra Mohan becomes the target of Neelima’s father (Dalip Tahil) rage who sends him into jail in the fake accusation of his own father’s murder. He is not only a qaidi in Boston school till the age of maturity but also the qaidi of prem of Neelima. While Neelima is spending her life as a qaidi in her own house and her father is planning to make her marriage with a businessman of his own standard. Here comes the part of honest Lady Superintended (Rama Vij) who vows in front of Neelima’ father to make her marriage with Chandra Mohan and died after completing her promise.

As it is Karishma Kapoor’s very first step in the Bollywood film industry yet she shows some spark of acting. However her sexual assault on the opposite being a female somewhere feels disgusting and boldness of this type from a rich man daughter is not a decent act. Many of the scenes in which she is trying to attract Chandra Mohan make us shy as well. It is the disgrace for a woman to go to that extent for winning a bet.  Here we can give margin to Karishma as it is the script demand and she has to perform and no doubt she has performed well and boldly. It is true that the script of the film is weak and fails to get the approval of audience as it clearly give the lesson to the present youth to go against the wishes of their parents. Love should not be the thing preferred on the reverence of family.

The second aspect of the script can be taken as youth of present century has forgotten the moral values and they don’t feel shame to do things that are socially unaccepted. Youth is distracting from the right path and instead of getting good education they are wasting their time in love making.

Even then film has its weakness to not get good rating as;

-           the songs are not so alluring to listen and

-          all the negative aspects of the story as youth in Boston school is involving in wrong activities with the police,

-          pandit is also depicting the negative aspect of religious values,

All negative with only Rama Vij’s positive role is not able to balance the movie and of course it flops. Karishma Kapoor appears somewhat loud and does not attract even in her sexual part. Harish is ok but as a male person his character is not strong as he only act whatever Neelima and Lady Superintendent dictate. Paresh Rawal character is also weak and has no margin to perform in the film. His drunken role and wrong attitude towards son’s education further give him minuses. On the whole Karishma succeed to make her debut in film industry but the film is failed to hit Box office.
