Kareena Kapoor in Kambakkht Ishq

“Kambakkht Ishq” is a Hindi movie released in 2009. It is written and directed by Sabir Khan. The story is traditional Bollywood plot in which hero and heroine who are not interested in opposite sex and do not believe in love ultimately become prey to it. The worn out story with totally a new set uppresented something hilarious or outstanding. Considering the title Kambakkht Ishq shows that Love is not such thing to let go any living being without experiencing it.

Virej Shergill (Akshay Kumar) is a stuntman in Hollywood film industry. He has incidentally got the chance to work with Hollywood stars like Sylvester Stallone, Brandon Routh, Denise Richard, Whoopi Goldberg and Holly Valance. His philosophy about woman is that she is not more than a sex thing. In the movie, he performs some very courageous stunt shows. One day, during a stunt action, he gets injured and admitted to hospital for the immediate operation.

Simrita Rai (Kareena Kapoor) is a pretty charming woman, doctor by profession. She has a grudge against men in society. She hates the opposite sex and always shows harsh attitude. One day a patient who got injured during stunt show brought to hospital for operation.

Does a Dog-tired storyline with innovative plot, star cast from Hollywood, magnificent costumes and lavish set designs do the job what a story demand for the Box Office? The question arises. First thing on first place we find the reason for laugh in a quality joke. Joke does not mean that you hang a person and say that I am joking. Kambakkht Ishq is one of such jokes. You could not help but cramp as where you got stuck. Putting heavy alien cast to whom most of Indians do not know even and cannot establish a connection why they are there is useless. And what a hack, Hollywood stars accepted the role as well without analyzing the quality of story.

I think director would have presented a plea before them to work in the movie or tell them something else instead of the real story as they don’t understand hindi. This is like they are making fun of such a grand caliber artists or wanna sit in their feet lowering their own status as Akshay is just doing a stunt role in their movie. What is the need of insulting themselves in front of Hollywood stars, I am unable to understand. The hero of Bollywood is a stuntman in Hollywood.

Kareena Kapoor on the other side has a respectable role of doctor. However her incapability surely makes ashamed of many Hindus (k naam doboya India Ka). Otherwise as a comedy role she does excellent job. Her smouldering look to rouse the feelings of opposite to bring the title of the movie home is enough. She looks marvelous in makeup and English costumes. Only she should care about the image as an Indian artist while going to do a role in such an International level film.
