Kareena Kapoor in TASHAN

Tashan is a Hindi movie released in 2008. It is written by Piyush Mishra and Vishal Dadlani while directed by Vijay Krishna Acharaya. The story is set in a distant environment that is hard to find now. Their style, their reasons and sequences are so old that film is far away from originality. The script is poorly written and writer has not cared for the story. It seems he is inspired by the characters of Pirates of the Caribbean’.

Literal meaning of the world Tashan is style. Now it is difficult to decide that whether we have to see the style of characters which are imitated from Hollywood ‘Pirate of the Caribbean’ or the story that is the caricature of it. If we see the film we find Jack Sparrow in Akshay Kumar, Will Turner in Saif Ali Khan and Elizabeth Swan in Kareena Kapoor. Even camera in the movie is focusing in disgusting style. No doubt style is there but in its worst form.

The story is about a gangster Bhaiyaji (Anil Kapoor) who wants to learn English and unfortunately cheated by his own scab. Jateenadar or Jimmy (Saif Ali Khan) is working full time in Call Center and tutoring spoken English as a Part time job. The story takes a twist and love affair between Jimmy and Pooja starts. Pooja involves him in her robbery plan and Jimmy agrees. They rob Bhaiyaji and ran away with 25 crore. Bhaiyaji hires Bachchan Pandey (Akshey Kumar) to catch Jimmy and Pooja. Twist after twist in the story makes us confuse about characters that who is sincere with whom. Pooja who is taking revenge from Bhaiyaji killing her father deceive Jimmy as well and disappears with money. Bachchan tracks down Jimmy first and both starts looking for Pooja. In coming sequences, we find that they find out Pooja and that Pooja and Bachchan are prepubertal lovers. The climax is forcefully drawn by the writer to confront all the characters. Their encounter causes Bhaiyaji’s murder by Bachchan Panday. Rest Pooja weds Bachchan and Jimmy starts running his own call center.

First shock is seeing Anil Kapoor in villain role. Rather it is better to say that this movie is villainous movie. Everyone in the movie is running after money and there is no concept of humanity. No discrimination between right and wrong. Everything is wrong. Akshay is also a rascal. However Akshay is seen more appropriate in the role as compared to Anil. Anil Kapoor has no appeal for the villain role although he tries hard to soak himself into the character yet in vain. Kareena Kapoor is apparently a bad character but when we hear her story we come to know her predicament. She portrays the character very well and displays a versatile talent. In the beginning she was seeing like a toy in the hands of Bhaiyaji but later she shows that she is not mere a play thing. She is the one who becomes responsible for Bhayajis murder. Truly, Kareena Kapoor is a show piece who is walking in bikni most of the time and this she does well. Otherwise movie is flop from story-wise, character-wise and even cinematography is poor. Songs are bothering every time they start and camera has lost his focus from nearly all the important scenes.
