Kareena Kapoor in CHAMELI

Kareena Kapoor’s 2003 last movie CHAMELI is an art movie. It is written by Anant Balani and Shivkumar Subramanium while directed by Sudhir Mishra. The film belongs to the Duologue genere as two characters Chamelli (Kareena Kapoor) and Aman (Rahul Bose) spend whole night together because of the continuous rain. Both have different reasons to be out there and now confined due to rain. Aman is looking for his wife who has lost in an accident and Chameli is a prostitute waiting for the client as usually.

The sequences bind the two extremely different personalities to be together and wait till the rain is over. As the strangers mind their own business both remain silent and gone deep into their thoughts. It is when Aman wants to drink cigarette and find no match then Chameli step forward to light his cigarette. Aman still stammer to have chat with Chameli as her outfit and bold make up, eating pan and oogling makes him conscious to have even a momentary relation with her.

After little hesitation both start talking and share their problems. Duologue becomes the autobiography of Chameli as a prostitute. Aman surprises to get awareness with such part of society that is always consider filthy and stinky due to rottenness of moral values and norms. Kareena Kapoor performs this character very well as she has a flamboyance to lose chastity of male. And spectators expect a single intimate scene between them that never takes place. Kareena does the part sincerely and adopt the character of prostitute to its maximum extent. Her style, he dressing and dialogues show that she may do a research on the character to perform. Although Chameli is not a success even then Chameli character deserves a best actress award. No one can better enact the role as Kareena did in this movie. Applaud!
