“Golmaal Returns” is a Hindi movie released in 2008. It is written by Rumi Jaffery and directed by Rohit Shetty. It is a non-sense comedy series supplement to “Golmaal”, however it is not better than Golmaal. Golmaal Returns should have been something with more humor and quality script but alas due to dry script and mad humor the movie was unable to grasp the attention of audience.
The story is about a skeptical wife who is used to watch Star plus dramas and becomes habitual of perceiving all the situations in a same way as happen in the dramas. The suspicious wife is Ekta G. Santoshi (Kareena Kapoor) and is found always criticizing her husband blaming him about unseen and undone treachery. This makes the husband Gopal (Ajay Davegan) over conscious and peevish fellow.
One day he becomes the victim of fate and suffers a lot. On that day he was about to return to home when he found a girl named Meera in trouble and saved her from goons got trap by the weather on to yacht. The next morning was a morning like it was the Day of Judgment. His wife was so sure about his infidelity that she was not ready to listen to anything. To avoid an expected drama he told a lie about him being with a fictitious friend Anthony Gonzales. This was not a single lie. It becomes a golmaal (circular chain) where every lie confronts him like a giant and makes him mad. Fiction becomes real and Anthony comes in person. Not only this, SP Madhav comes to talk about murder happens the same night when he was out with Meera considering him suspect. The sub plot has a love story of Esha (Amrita Arora) sister to Gopal and Inspector Madhav (Arshad Warsi).
Gopal is now struck with situation and unable to figure out the escape. His brother-in-law (Tusshar) and Laxman (Shreyas Talpade) to be the part of his plot are the real sources of entertainment.
Weak part of the film is its dialogues that are spoken in vulgar language mostly. This damages the ranking of film. Individual performances given by the characters are good and movie could be successful if story was written with good dialogue and tasteful story. Part of film played by Tusshar and Syreyas Talpade is good. Arshad Warsi gives an average acting. Ajay Devgan leaving the fighting roles aside performs as a husband of a suspicious natured wife. He seems compatible with the role and appreciative on the part of assuming diverse nature characters.
There is a very little to no scope for the female instead that all the Golmaal Returns created by a woman Kareena Kapoor. In this context, Kareena Kapoor is playing main role in the film and superbly. She imitates the roles of characters she used to see on Star plus that we find it quite amusing. This shows her involvement in the drama channel as she creates a drama to just check the morality of her husband. No doubt she does a good job.
